School Organisation Plan (SOP) 2004-2008

School Organisation Plan 2001-2005 - Annual Review 2001

The School Standards and Framework Act 1998 requires Devon County Council as the Local Education Authority (LEA) to produce a School Organisation Plan.

The Plan :

  • Deals with how school places are provided in Devon and how places will be provided to meet future demand.
  • Covers a five year period from the start of the academic year beginning September 2001. It is a rolling Plan that is reviewed and updated annually to cover the following 5 years.
  • Identifies the areas where places will be needed and what type of places will be needed, but does not identify individual schools.
  • Gives details of provision for children with Special Educational Needs and for Post 16 students.
  • Identifies how all the promoters and providers of education in Devon which are the LEA, the Church of England, the Roman Catholic Church and the Further Education Funding Council (Learning Skills Council from April 2001) will be involved.

The County Council has set up a School Organisation Committee to consider the Draft School Organisation Plan along with any comments that are received during consultation. Devon's School Organisation Committee is formed from members drawn from the County Council, the Church of England Diocesan Board of Education, the Roman Catholic Schools Commission, the Learning and Skills Council and serving school governors.

Each year, the County Council prepares and publishes a Draft Plan and then consults with others about the content. The consultation on this plan took place between April and June 2001. The School Organisation Committee met in July to consider the response to consultation and agreed the content of the Plan. This Plan was published on 31 August 2001.
