Education In Exeter

Education in Exeter has been transformed.  We hope that these pages will give you an overview of a large scale project to reorganise it.

Exeter introduced a new system of education in September 2005 which has attracted national interest.  It introduced a primary/secondary system in common with the rest of Devon with pupils moving between the two phases at the age of 11.

This marked the end of a system where children transferred from first to middle schools at the age of eight and then on to high schools at 12, or attended combined schools from five to twelve.

Many exciting developments are also taking place in areas such as nursery education and education for pupils aged 14 to 19.

We are investing over £100m in school buildings with all the new secondary schools being purpose built, state of the art, new buildings.

Support, preparation and training for staff has been a high priority and the education of pupils is our highest priority.  Results in Exeter from primary school SATs to GCSEs have continued to improve.

Post 16 education is also changing with very successful 14-19 curriculum partnership and extensive development of new facilities and opportunities at Exeter College.
