Focus on White Working Class Boys - for information
As you know white working class boys (Free School Meals) are one of our target audiences for the NYR.
To inform our work we recently commissioned some research to find out what motivates them, what they are interested in and what their reading habits are. The findings are incredibly helpful for our work and will be useful for your work with this audience too.
In addition, if you are using the NYR to reach working class boys through their families then you may find it interesting that The Bookseller recently reported that book sales among this group are increasing but are particularly focussed on crime fiction and true life stories.
Many of you have also asked me about the National Strategies data which we have promised to you and which details which schools have a particularly high number of Free School Meal boys. Fiona O' Brien our Assistant Director is working with the National Strategies team and we will get this information to you as soon as possible.

Further to finding your details on the Year of Reading website, I’m writing to introduce The Write Fantastic. We’re a group of professional fantasy writers seeking to introduce fantasy fiction to a wider readership, and to show the broad scope of narratives available within the genre today.
