  • supporting adults who want help with their reading

21 November Conference - Promoting the enjoyment of reading
Devon gets reading professional conference and workshop

Venue: Sandy Park, Exeter.

November 21st 2008

A free day-long conference, with workshops, devoted to promoting the enjoyment of reading across the age range especially for those currently reluctant to read on account of lack of skills or negative attitudes. The outcome will be for each Devon Local Learning Community (LLC) and for the Children’s Centres, Libraries and Adult Learning within its geographical area, a series of key action points to promote reading for enjoyment. Various exhibitors will mount display stalls for the day.

Schools in Devon drop everything and get reading

Year 2 Children from St Leonard’s School, Exeter visited County Hall on Monday 6th October to start the week that leads up to DEAR day (Drop Everything and Read Day) on Friday 10th October. The pupils were met by Devon County Council leader Brian Greenslade and Chief Executive Phil Norrey. Councillor Greenslade talked of his pride in the County of Devon. The children went on to tour the Highways Department and ended up in the Council Chamber where Dr Norrey read them a story. Read more on the news page.
