North Devon
South Molton & District Museum
In 1987 South Molton and District Museum won an illustrated London News Award for the best small museum of the year. Its displays offer a most coherent story line of the life and times of the town and the surrounding district, with items and photographs depicting domestic activities, trades, industry and farming, all fascinating glimpses of the past. Discover a massive wooden eighteenth century cider press with contemporary implements, two fire engines, one a Newsham's model bought in 1736 for £46 and the second which is a horse drawn appliance bearing the date 1886. South Molton and District Museum also boasts a unique pewter collection, various displays of minerals, most of which are from local mine workings, and two original charters, one from Elizabeth 1 dated 9 May 1590 and the other given by Charles 11 dated 24 December 1684.

Location:
From the A361 North Devon Link Road, exit at South Molton and proceed to the square. The museum is situated in the Town Hall building erected in 1743.
