Energy from Waste

Disposing of Devon’s waste is a large scale operation that involves Devon County Council, District Councils and commercial partners working together to collect and dispose of nearly 200,000 tonnes of ‘residual’ refuse (waste left over after reduction, reuse, recycling and composting activities have taken place) from households across the county, every year. Currently, this refuse is primarily sent to landfill sites within Devon.

Devon County Council and Viridor Waste Management Ltd are pleased to announce that they will be constructing an Energy from Waste facility which will enable the County Council to divert 60,000 tonnes of waste from landfill. The plant will be constructed by the French company TIRU under contract to Viridor, to be built on the site of the former Exeter Incinerator on the Marsh Barton Trading Estate in Exeter.
