Public Rights of Way

As the Highway Authority for Devon, the County Council is responsible for 3,200 miles (4,960km) of public rights of way.

To find out more about where to Walk, Ride and Cycle in Devon please select My Local Paths (last updated 31 March 2014) This will take you to a map where you can obtain information on any path in the County. You can zoom in and out at various scales by following the instructions displayed underneath the map and by using the Legend and Layer buttons you can see all Public Rights of Way, Cycleways, Access Land and the Dartmoor Commons.

You can also find out  if there are any stiles, gates or bridges on the paths and  how steep or level a route is.

  • Explore Devon - the naturally active way - A new website has just been launched to help you explore Devon’s green spaces. With two distinctive coastlines, two National Parks, two World Heritage Sites, five Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty and countless, woodlands, forests, rivers, parks and open spaces, there is something for everyone.   • The Great South West Walks 2014 Opens For Bookings - 100 New Walks Announced - These specially selected circular walks by the South West Coast Path Association, will raise vital funds for the South West Coast Path Association and Children’s Hospice South West. To take part in the event which runs from 20-28th September, participants can visit the Great South West Walks website ( and choose one or more of the 100 walks available.
  • The South West Coast Path Association has launched a fundraising appeal for urgent repair works to the South West Coast Path between Dartmouth and Bantham, and to establish a fund for future path improvement projects in the South Hams

  • Grand Western Canal - Anniversary party at the Canal Basin in Tiverton on Monday 25th August. This will mark the actual 200th anniversary of the canal (to the day) and will also celebrate 40 years of the horse-drawn barge Tivertonian operating on the Canal.   • Stover Country Park - why not visit Stover this Summer? With over 114 acres of woodland, grassland, marsh and lakes, it is the perfect place to visit for all the family, in addition to which it operates the Countryside Mobiliby Scheme, which means it is an ideal place to visit for those with limited mobility.
