The Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981 requires the County Council to keep the Definitive Map of public rights of way under continuous review, and to make modifications where it appears that routes should be added, re-graded or deleted. The Definitive Map Review of Public Rights of Way is currently being undertaken in the Parish of Lamerton.

Your views and any relevant evidence are sought on the following suggestions for modifying the Definitive Map for Lamerton:

Route 1: Addition of a bridleway at Lower Chaddlehanger.

Route 2: Upgrading of Footpath No. 17 to bridleway, between Higher Woodley and the B3362 alternative, south of Collacombe Barton.

The Definitive Map is the legal record of public rights of way. There are four categories:

• Footpath - a highway over which the public have a right of way on foot only.
• Bridleway - a highway over which the public have a right of way on foot, horseback, leading a horse or on a bicycle.
• Restricted byway – a highway over which the public have a right of way on foot, horseback, leading a horse, or with a non-mechanically propelled vehicle.
• Byway open to all traffic - a highway over which the public have a right of way with all traffic but which is mainly used as a footpath or bridleway.

Maps showing the existing public rights of way, and suggestions to modify the Definitive Map, are available for inspection at the Lamerton Community and Sports Centre, Lamerton, and at the West Devon Borough Council, Kilworthy Park, Tavistock, and during office hours at the Public Rights of Way Service, Lucombe House, County Hall, Exeter, 01392 383026.
