Definitive Map Review

Parish of Bishop’s Tawton

The Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981 requires the County Council to keep the Definitive Map of public rights of way under continuous review and to make modifications where it appears that routes should be added, regraded or deleted.

A review of the Definitive Map was started in Bishop’s Tawton with a public meeting in 1993. No evidence was submitted for suggested changes and a second public meeting was held in 2003. Consultations took place in 2004, which included suggested additions of public rights of way on Codden Hill.

Following a report to the Public Rights of Way Committee in September 2005, a Modification Order was made in February 2006 adding routes as bridleways and footpaths on Codden Hill. It was objected to and the Order was submitted to the Planning Inspectorate for determination.

A public inquiry is being held to determine the Order, at Bishop’s Tawton Village Hall on Wednesday 11th April 2007, starting at 10.00 a.m.
