Definitive Map Review
Parish of Milton Abbot
The Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981 requires the County Council to keep the Definitive Map of public rights of way under continuous review, and to make modifications where it appears that routes should be added, re-graded or deleted. The Definitive Map Review of Public Rights of Way is currently being undertaken in the Parishes of Milton Abbot and Dunterton.

The Definitive Map is the legal record of public rights of way. There are four categories:
- Footpath - a highway over which the public have a right of way on foot only.
- Bridleway - a highway over which the public have a right of way on foot, horseback, leading a horse or on a bicycle.
- Restricted byway – a highway over which the public have a right of way on foot, horseback, leading a horse, or with a non-mechanically propelled vehicle.
- Byway open to all traffic - a highway over which the public have a right of way with all traffic but which is mainly used as a footpath or bridleway.
Maps showing the existing public rights of way, and suggestions to modify the Definitive Map, are available for inspection at the Area South Office, Devon House, Brunel Road, Newton Abbot on 0845 155 1004, and on request from the Clerk to the Parish Council, and during office hours at the Public Rights of Way Service, Lucombe House, County Hall, Exeter on 01392 383026.
