How are the schemes achieved?

In order for schemes to be successful, it is recognised that there needs to be collaboration between the various environmental professions. The County Council has, therefore, developed a multi-disciplinary approach.

Simplicity of design produces the best results. This applies to street furniture and paving in particular. The principal design objective should be to ensure that all the components of the scheme relate to one another and assist in creating a coherent street environment.  This does not mean that every town or city centre should look the same.  Rather, each space within an overall design concept reflects the town's heritage and its present day functions. Reinforcing identity can be achieved by encouraging local distinctiveness through bespoke design and public art.
