A number of ‘Street Squares’ will appear at regular intervals along carriageways in the Home Zone. In design terms the squares will break up the linear nature of the street, at the same time creating more intimate spaces which will encourage greater socialisation in the street.

The diversity of paving in the squares will help to emphasise the domestic nature of this environment and their red and grey hues will harmonise with the colour and texture of the streetscape.

Each square will break up long views along the street and incorporate features, which will force oncoming vehicles to slow down. Characteristically the squares will feature the  ‘Pergola’ style structures together with trees that will be set within the paving border at opposite sides of each square.
