Gateways

Wonford HomeZone

A striking entranceway will be created with the use of brick piers located at the access into and out of Holly Road. These will be placed either side of the vehicular pathway and act as a pinch point, slowing down vehicles entering the Home Zone. The Piers, inspired by 1930’s architecture, will be internally lit rectangular columns constructed out of red brick to match those used in the housing. Long-life LED’s (Light Emitting Diodes) will provide the lighting source for the piers and will sit behind a ‘Corten’ fascia signs with perforations in them; these will spell out ‘Wonford Home Zone’.

The current arrangement of the traffic calming along Burnthouse lane creates a natural focus as an entranceway into Holly Road and the Home Zone. The proposed designs compliment this existing gateway.

Trees will redefine the width of the carriageway at the remaining five secondary entrances. The combined use of tree/piers which act as pinch points, new signage and a rise in the level of the carriageway at all the entranceways, will ensure that vehicles entering these streets are aware that they entering a Home Zone.
