Wonford HomeZone

Core Area

Wonford HomeZone

The large roundabout, found at the junction of Holly Road and Laburnum Road, has been designed as a transitional space for those travelling through the Home Zone. Pedestrians will be directed through a central pathway across the roundabout, which follows the line of Holly Road and will be able to enjoy views to the Ludwell Valley Park.

Cherry trees will encircle the roundabout and a central area will be defined with two, raised orange segment shaped structures. These will be covered with fine bound gravel raked into patterns to create visual interest. Limestone boulders, extracted from Stoneycombe Quarry in Devon, will be sliced into thinner sections and sit within the two-raised segment shaped structures either side of the pathway. The sliced boulder pieces will stand at different heights to form a wave like pattern.

The hard landscaping of this area will maximise its durability whilst creating an area of interest. This type of landscaping will also act as a deterrent for dog fouling, a current problem in this area.

Lighting columns will be a feature in the central area of the roundabout and double luminaires will direct light onto both the central area and the vehicle pathway that encircles this.
