Materials

back to slide gallery

The materials proposed are based on the palette of materials already used in Cathedral Close. Samples of the materials to be used are on display here at the exhibition. They can be summarised as follows:

Footways - Yorkstone flags, it is proposed to use a sawn finish which match the steps leading towards the West front of the Cathedral and the area surrrounding the War memorial (see photograph right).

Kerbs.- Granite kerbs to match the existing will be used, where appropriate, existing kerbs will be lifted and realigned.

Carriageway - Granite setts, similar in size and appearance to those used in Queen Street and High Street are proposed

Steps - the proposed steps linking the carriageway and the new paved area will be constructed in granite. To accommodate the level changes the steps will gradually increase in height from being flush to a full step height, (see photograph right).
