Breathing Places
Welcome to a celebration of Devon’s Breathing Places

Breathing Places is a national campaign which encourages us to get outside and do one thing for wildlife. This year Devon County Council has teamed up with the BBC to get everyone in Devon involved.
A breathing place is somewhere you can go to enjoy the wildlife of Devon, for example; a cycle ride onto the Blackdown Hills, a walk across Dartmoor, working on your allotment or searching for sea life with your children in rock-pools…
Wherever your special breathing place is make sure you get involved by ‘doing one more thing for wildlife’ this year
For ideas of things to do and places to visit have a look at the list of events being held during the year, some of which are linked to the BBC’s Springwatch, Family Fun and Autumnwatch campaigns. Also click on ‘your breathing places’ to find out more about breathing places in Devon.

| Phil Norrey, Chief Executive, Devon County Council My breathing place is a short cycle route which takes me up on to the Blackdown Hills into an undiscovered world of sheltered combes and broadleaved woodland. A quiet place now but with evidence of human activity from the Iron Age onwards, including Roman mineral workings, mediaeval turbaries and nineteenth century whetstone mines. My favourite time of year is early May when the roadside verges are awash with the wild flowers and the evening sun shines green-gold through the canopies of beech. |
