Community climate change networks
Devon Climate Action Network (DCAN), launched in March 2009, was set up to connect, support, and represent groups and individuals interested in climate action, transition and sustainable living across Devon. DCAN’s goal is to increase its members’ collective impact by connecting, supporting and representing its diverse members.
The Dartmoor Circle network consists of thirteen climate change groups from all around Dartmoor who have agreed to work together to tackle climate change and promote sustainability across the moor and the areas around it. The network allows the different green groups to speak with a single voice, representing a membership of 2,000 individuals, all committed to tackling climate change and promoting sustainability.
Transition Towns/Villages etc – the essence of the transition concept is a community-level response to the twin challenges of Peak Oil and Climate Change which produces a community that people want to be part of. Totnes is the first UK transition town (see Transition Town Totnes) and an inspiring case study for other communities considering the transition route.
