Identifying the Wildlife Requirements

Non-Statutory Designations

Will the scheme affect a site which is a non-statutory designation?

Don't Know

At a minimum, you will need to check whether the site is a County Wildlife Site or County Geological Site (also known as RIGS).

How do I find out whether the site is a County Wildlife Site or County Geological Site?

The quickest way to find this out may be to consult the relevant Local Plan.

What should I do if the scheme will affect a County Wildlife Site or County Geological Site?

You will need to ensure that the relevant requirements are met. Please read the information on the 'Yes Section'.

Yes

At a minimum you must ensure that the required protection is given to County Wildlife Site and County Geological Site.

There is policy protection for County Wildlife Sites and County Geological Sites contained in the statutory development plans (the Devon Structure Plan and the relevant district Local Plan). These policies generally state that these sites should be protected from harmful development and that their beneficial management should be promoted. It is important that action to conserve and enhance County Wildlife/Geological Sites is taken, whether or not the scheme requires formal planning permission.
