What Devon County Council is doing

Devon County Council is committed to minimising its carbon footprint.  As part of this some of the initiatives running include:

  • A 2% year on year energy reduction programme
  • Audio conferencing equipment to reduce the need to travel to meetings for business purposes
  • A non-car day each week for staff at County Hall
  • Recycling facilities are being rolled out across all sites
  • All staff have a green target set in their annual appraisals
  • Staff are encouraged to make a pledge to help make Devon greener
  • Printing is only done on recycled paper

Devon County Council is working to the following targets as part of its Waste@Work scheme:

  • To reduce the amount of waste produced on County Council premises by at least 10% by 2008.
  • To recycle 60% of County Council waste by 2008.
  • To introduce a high profile centralised colour coded recycling system in all premises, enabling staff and visitors to recycle easily.
  • To actively promote and increase the level of reuse by County Council staff.
  • To actively promote the purchasing of recycled products such as recycled paper, in all departments.
