Devon in Europe

Devon County Council uses the services of an external European liaison service - the South West European Partnership. (SWEP) - in order to assist with its European role. The partnership includes a team of staff based in the UK and Brussels who support our European work programme, including:

  • gathering intelligence on current and future policies and legislation
  • lobbying and liaising with high-level EU officials on key policy areas
  • sharing knowledge and experience, and promoting local expertise at European level

Conference of Peripheral and Maritime Regions

The CPMR has a membership of over 100 regions spanning Europe's coasts from Norway to Portugal, Italy and Greece and including islands as diverse as Crete, Orkney and the French territories in the Caribbean.  Along with a number of other UK coastal regions, Devon is a member of the CPMR.

Arc Manche

Arc Manche is a flexible network of French Regions and British local authorities along the Channel. It's aims are:

- to co-operate on themes of common interest

- to reinforce the links between both sides of the Channel

Arc Manche involves in its aims and outputs various categories of stakeholders, bodies and local authorities of the Channel.

Baranya Links

Devon County Council has had long-standing links with Baranya County and its capital Pécs over the years. In addition, members of the Devon Baranya Association have worked in a voluntary capacity to foster good relations. Links have included the creation of a 'Devon Room' in Pécs and educational exchanges e.g. visits by Hungarian schools to Devon.
