Civil Partnerships - Your Guide

How Buildings Are Approved

Advice to applicants and an application form may be obtained from Devon Registration Service for applications for a room or rooms to be approved under the Marriage Act 1994 and Civil Partnership Act 2004. The fee, which covers a three year period, will be detailed in the application pack.  Venues must be considered suitable for civil ceremonies and should have no religious connection - ceremonies accompanying civil partnership registration must be secular in nature. The area in question must be within a permanent structure. The venue is inspected by representatives of the Registration Service. Provided there are no objections following a period of public consultation a licence is issued.

Advice or application forms may be obtained by writing to:

Registration Service Manager

Devon Register Office
Castle Street, Exeter EX4 3PQ

or by telephoning 01392 383450, e-mailing: register@devon.gov.uk, or by visiting the Devon County Council website where there is a downloadable application form available.
