Once you have decided on a date and venue for the registration you should make a provisional booking with the appropriate Registration Office particularly if you are intending to book an approved premise on a busy Saturday.
You and your partner are required to give formal notice at a Registration Office. A statutory fee is payable for this service.
If you live in the Devon County Council area, notice may be given, by appointment, at any of the Council’s eight Registration Offices and some outstations. If you live elsewhere, you should contact your local Register Office in the first instance.
A civil partnership may be registered on the sixteenth day after the formal notice has been entered. A notice of intention to form a civil partnership remains valid for one year.
You and your partner will be required to produce certain documents as proof you are free to enter into a civil partnership, together with proof of residence. With the wide range of documents that are acceptable, you should check their suitability with the office concerned when making an appointment.
Please bear in mind that it is essential that these documents are available when notice is being given or it will be necessary to re-arrange the appointment.
It is a legal requirement that copies of all notices are publicly displayed for a period of fifteen days following entry. All notices attested in the Devon County Council area are publicly displayed at the Teignbridge Registration Office in Newton Abbot during this fifteen day period.
Provided no objections are raised forbidding the issue of the schedule for a civil partnership by any person authorised to do so, the schedule will be issued by the Registration Office for the area in which the registration will take place.
When giving notice it would be helpful if you could decide whether you will require full certificate(s) or extract(s) (extracts do not show addresses; full certificates may only be made available if applicant has knowledge of addresses).
Certificates of registration are available at a cost of £3.50 each at the time of registration and £8.00 thereafter.
