There is no requirement for any form of contractual words to be exchanged in a civil partnership registration. A partnership is registered when both parties sign the schedule. This document is also signed by the civil partnership registrar and two witnesses.

Should you and your partner decide to enhance your registration with a ceremony then arrangements and content should be discussed with the civil partnership registrar for the area in which the registration is to be held. Many couples choose to enhance their ceremony by exchanging vows and include music, poetry and readings. The content of any ceremony must be secular in nature.

Statutory fees are payable for the registration of a civil partnership.
