Whenever possible, gaps of fifteen years or more in registers or register series are noted except, in the case of parish registers, when these occur in the middle of the seventeenth century in respect of which the absence of entries from 1642 to about 1660 or the existence of other considerable defects affecting the completeness of the registers is common.
Production of parish registers held at Plymouth and all non-parochial registers requires citation of the appropriate deposit number.
The parish registers and non-parochial registers are in the process of being microfilmed, so that any register which has been filmed will only be produced for inspection in this format.
Parish registers which have been filmed will normally be available in microfiche format at all three offices, but please note that some registers are unsuitable for filming and it will therefore be necessary to consult the original register at the appropriate office.
Inclusion of a register in the lists does not guarantee its availability for public inspection.
There is a service point at our old premises in Castle Street, Exeter, on the same floor as the Westcountry Studies Library, at which microfilm and microfiche of parish registers and Inland Revenue wills, 1812-1858, are being made available.
Microfiche of some parish registers is now available at Service Points which have been established at Appledore, Brixham, Colyton, Holsworthy, Honiton, Kingsbridge, Okehampton, Tavistock, Tiverton, Torquay and Totnes.
