Community Planning

West Devon

The countryside, towns and villages within West Devon are adapting to significant economic and social changes. There is acceptance of the need to accommodate new ways of earning a living and to meet changing social requirements, whilst sustaining the environment in the long term. This type of development is about ensuring a better quality of life, for now and in the future.

This can only be achieved by balancing economic, social and environmental issues. These include transport, waste management, water and energy issues, land management, tourism, recreation, viable communities, local services, population structure and economic development, in short, everything we do to live, work and play in West Devon.

How Does it Work?

A Planning Forum meets occasionally to review. The Forum is a partnership of more than 30 community, private, public and voluntary organisations. The forum's aim is to work with the community to further develop the Community Plan for West Devon. In addition, there is a LSP Management Board made up of representatives of theForum.  This Board provides the vehicle to take collective action, where appropriate, on the themes in this the Community Plan
