Community Planning

Torridge

Torridge Together is the Local Strategic Partnership for the District. It meets quarterly and comprises representatives from many sectors of the community, although it would benefit from additional input from the business community. A first Community Strategy Position Statement was published early in 2003 and a full Community Strategy published in 2005.

How does it Work?

The LSP has been substantially re-focused over the last two years and works to an agreed work programme.  LSP meeting always include workshops sessions on high priority areas

Working groups are established as necessary and formal links are agreed as appropriate with other strategic partnerships such as those dealing with economic development, health improvement or community safety.

A performance management process has recently been developed to report progress and deal with blockages.

The LSP works with five local community planning bodies associated with Parish Plans and the Market and Coastal Towns process, each relating to the natural communities within the District. Each of these is developing differently but is supported by the District and County Councils and other partners to tackle issues of local importance. A representative of each local alliance sits on the LSP and the chair meet together regularly.

Key areas for inclusion in the first community strategy will be

  • Economic prosperity
  • Travel, transport and access
  • Health and well-being and Social Inclusion
  • Young people
  • Caring for the environment
  • Community Safety
  • Education, training and lifelong learning
  • Housing
  • Public involvement

And running throughout we will be tackling disadvantage and fairness
