From the MSC Napoli Response Centre
There are no changes to the condition of the vessel.
The Secretary of States Representative, Robin Middleton, is considering different options for the removal and disposal of the vessel once all of the containers are taken off. No decision has been made yet, but one option as reported in the media, is for the vessel to be thoroughly cleaned and towed to deep water and sunk. There would need to be a full risk assessment that would take into account the potential impact on the marine environment before a decision is made, and the authorities would need to comply with strict national guidance and regulations. Another possibility is that the vessel be recycled.
There are approximately 200 containers now left on board the vessel, and work to remove them is progressing well although at a slower rate now that the operation has got more difficult.
Container operations at Portland Port are progressing, with reports of storage difficulties because of the sheer number of containers awaiting onward transfer to Le Havre. The MSC Grace will arrive at Portland next week to remove 200+ boxes.
There have been no new reports of oil at sea or on shore.
Debris washing a shore at Branscombe is being addressed by the contractors.
