From the MSC Napoli Response Centre
The salvage team is continuing to remove containers from the vessel. As of yesterday there were 207 containers remaining on board.
A dedicated diving team has started to patch and repair the hull of Number 5 Hold, which is known to be open to the sea.
The preferred method for removal of the vessel is to refloat the ship in one piece for delivery to Portland Outer Harbour.
Other removal options being considered include removal of the wreck in the event that the hull breaks in two, and cutting up the ship in situ and removal in pieces for recycling.
Container processing at Portland Port is continuing. Storage space for containers is limited but the Port Authority is laying down hard standing to create space for a further 100 to 200 containers.
There have been no new reports of oil at sea or on shore Beach patrols are continuing on a daily basis and Officers are responding appropriately to any materials washing ashore.
