The success of the county depends on high standards of educational achievement for all people to learn throughout their lives. The Education, Arts and Libraries Directorate has five priority areas which are:
To work with schools, the education community (including the Learning and Skills Council), parents and children to raise educational standards and to promote an education system that meets the needs of all children.
Promote lifelong learning by increasing the range and quality of early learning opportunities, parental support and education and by influencing, identifying and helping to meet the learning and skills priorities for Devon.
Promote greater educative and social inclusion for people with special needs and those in need of personal advice and representation.
Develop the library service as community information and learning centres.
Recognise and support the contribution the arts make to Devon life.
