Devon County Council makes a visible difference to Tiverton children

From Janet Kipling, Exeter 383654, May 12, 2008

High visibility waistcoats which will help children stay safe are being given to a Tiverton school by local Devon County Councillor, Des Hannon.

Pupils at Tidcombe Primary School will get forty of the vests to help keep them safe and sound when out walking. Four waistcoats for adults are also being donated, to be used by teachers and helpers.

The grant of £320 to pay for the vests comes from Cllr Hannon's County Committee budget. The budget allows Devon County Councillors to give one-off grants to community projects in their areas.

Cllr Hannon: "I'm delighted to be able to boost Tidcombe pupils' excellent sporting efforts with a grant from my local budget. These vests help keep youngsters safe while they take a healthy walk to make use of facilities elsewhere in the town."

Q Dickinson, Year 6 teacher, said: "Without this very kind donation of vests it would have been difficult to safely walk to Blundell's school. We are very grateful to Cllr Hannon for his efforts in acquiring the vests for us and to Blundell's School for the use of their squash courts."
