Dartmoor poetry competition at Tavistock Library

From Pam Newby, Exeter 383654, February 27,2008

Budding poets inspired by the glory of Dartmoor are being invited to put pen to paper in a new competition being held by Devon County Council's Tavistock library.

The competition is being staged to mark the forthcoming Festival of Dartmoor Literature in May.

There are three categories for those aged 11 and under, those aged 12 to 18 and those aged over 18. All schools and colleges in the surrounding area have been invited to submit individual or class submissions. Entrants are asked to write a maximum of 30 lines and to be as original as they like.

"We'd like them to highlight the glory of Dartmoor rather than its attraction as a tourist destination," said library manager Jude Jeal.

Entries with details of the entrant's name, age and contact details should be handed in at the library or sent to Tavistock Library, The Quay, Plymouth Road, Tavistock PL19 8AB. The deadline for entries is May 2.
