Improvements at Sutton Barton recycling centre

From Pam Newby, Exeter 383654, February 27,2008

Work to refurbish the Sutton Barton Recycling Centre near Honiton starts on Monday, 3rd March.

A new 'sales' building is to be constructed, the concrete walls of the general and green waste bays are to be refurbished, the entire site will be re-surfaced and the staff accommodation will be upgraded.

The scheme is expected to be completed by late April.

Devon County Council Executive Member for Environment, Councillor Margaret Rogers, said: "These works will refurbish the existing site which is now showing its age. In addition, a new sales building will be provided so that re-usable goods can be stored indoors, protected from the weather. This will mean that even more waste can be recycled or re-used at this popular site and less will end up in landfill, making Devon even greener."

The recycling centre will remain open as normal, seven days a week, throughout the works. However, due to nature of the work and the confines of the site, the construction works will cause delays to people using the site. If possible, people are advised to avoid visiting the site until the work is completed.
