THE BBC's Crime Correspondent turned crime writer Simon Hall will be joining the Friends of Pinhoe Library to launch his new book and celebrate the national year of reading.

Simon, well-known for his crime reporting for BBC Devon, has been using his knowledge of crime, the media and the Devon countryside to forge a new career as an author.

Simon will be speaking on "Reporting crime, writing crime" linking his BBC work and his books. He will talk about his third book Evil Valley which will be published on the 15 September and there will be the chance to chat to Simon, and enjoy refreshments after his talk. His books will also be on sale which he will be very happy to sign.

Simon Hall said: "I'm delighted to be doing this event.  It always feels special, talking about your new book in your home town."

"I'm delighted that yet another great writer is participating in the County's very successful celebrations of the national year of reading" said Councillor Sheila Hobden, Executive Member for Culture. "I'm sure there will be many fans going along to hear what Simon has in store with his new book."

Saxon Spence, local County Councillor said: "This is part of the excellent work the Friends' Group is doing to raise the profile of Pinhoe Library in the community and we are delighted that Simon has chosen their autumn event for his Exeter launch of his new book."

Simon's first book, A Popular Murder, was very well received and proved to be the start of a popular new detective series. The second book in the series, Death Pictures, was published earlier this year. Simon has also been long listed for the prestigious Crime Writers Association Dagger in the Library award, for writers most popular with library users.

The talk is on Friday 19 September at 7.30pm at Sunnylands Room, America Hall, De La Rue Way, Pinhoe. Tickets are available for £2 from Pinhoe Library or at the door on the evening. All profits will go towards improvements the Friends are planning for Pinhoe Library.
