Bus passengers in Seaton are benefiting from a new low-floor bus which is running on most routes in the town.
The services are run by Stagecoach Cooks Coaches under a
tender arrangement with Devon County Council.
The vehicle, which is only 8.8metres long, is ideally suited for the roads
served in Seaton. It can seat 28 passengers with room for a further 14 people
to stand, and it can accommodate one wheelchair.
The bus is also a boon for parents with buggies as they can wheel their buggies on to the bus.
Chris Simes, Commercial Manager, Stagecoach Cooks Coaches,
said: "We are happy to work in partnership with Devon
County Council to improve the accessibility of the service provided to our
customers in Seaton, many of whom are elderly and appreciate the benefits that
the low floor easy access bus has to offer.
"The Seaton Town Services are operated with a small rota of drivers who get to
know their customers, understand their travel needs and are an important factor
in developing passenger growth. The provision of the new bus demonstrates the
commitment Stagecoach Cooks Coaches has in investing and developing bus service
provision in East Devon. "
The new bus was inspected by local County Councillor Margaret Rogers, who is also Executive Member for Environment. ""The introduction of a low floor vehicle on the Seaton Town service is a very important development, particularly as there are so many elderly people in the area. It will be a benefit to them and disabled people as well as parents with young children and buggies."
