More improvements in Okehampton Road

From Pam Newby, Exeter 383654, March 06,2008

The final phase of a major scheme to improve Okehampton Road in Exeter begins on Monday, March 17.

The section between Exwick Road and Buller Road is to be resurfaced at a cost of about £80,000 to complement the refurbishment of the footpaths. The work is scheduled to be completed on Friday, March 21.

All the work will be undertaken outside peak travel times and the road will be kept open for through traffic during the works.

To enable the work to be completed as quickly as possible, the contractor needs full access to the road. There will be total ban on parking during the five days of work. All local residents will be informed of the temporary ban one week in advance. People are reminded that any vehicles parked in this area during the day will be removed at owners' expense. A similar parking ban will apply in Okehampton Street to allow the clear passage of vehicles and to provide space for the delivery and storage of materials. Parking will be permitted in both roads at night from 5pm to 8.30am.

Local County Councillor Rob Hannaford said: "This is wonderful news. I have been pressing for this work for four years and it will greatly improve the whole area. I am sure that the County Council will work hard to keep disruption to the absolute minimum."
