Ivybridge library tender goes to Midas

From Liz Waugh, Exeter 383262, March 30,2007

PRESS RELEASE ISSUED ON BEHALF OF IVYBRIDGE TOWN COUNCIL.

IVYBRIDGE Town Council has appointed Midas Construction from Plymouth to build the new landmark library and community resource centre.

The town council's development control committee awarded the £4.1m contract to architects Stride Treglown and Midas Construction for the project, which will begin on site from 30 April.

The new centre has been funded by a partnership including Devon County Council, Ivybridge Town Council, South Hams District Council, Devon Renaissance through South West RDA and Objective 2 funding through Government Office South West.

Marc Chapman, Mayor of Ivybridge Town Council said: "We are delighted to award the contract to Midas Construction with our appointed architects, Stride Treglown.

"The library and resource centre represent a new future for the people of Ivybridge. It is a dynamic and innovative build that has only been achievable through the hard work and commitment of many people. It will breathe life into the town centre, bringing new business opportunities and much needed facilities for the whole community."

Councillor Humphrey Temperley, Executive Member for Strategic Planning and Regional Affairs, said: "Devon County Council has supported this project since its inception. It has the potential to create regeneration in the heart of the town, bringing real benefits to the business and local community too. It will be a flagship project for the county and we wish Ivybridge and Midas well in their undertaking."

Sarah Lee, Project Architect with Stride Treglowan said: "We are very pleased to be working with Ivybridge Town Council and Midas Construction. Midas was appointed in the face of stiff competition from five other companies, and their tender represented excellent value for money. Midas has an admirable track record in delivering similar projects so we are looking forward to getting the construction underway."

Richard Ellis, Divisional Manager for Midas Construction said: "After considerable hard work during the pre-qualification and tender stage we are delighted to have been appointed for this challenging and prestigious project. We look forward to working very closely with our client, design team and everyone involved and to hopefully exceed their expectations."

Work on site will begin on 30th April.
