It's a win-win situation at Honiton Library

From Rob Simmonds, Exeter 383654, November 28, 2006

Honiton Library has gone competition crazy, with three new prize-winning opportunities launched for Christmas.

The first is the Library's biggest and best quiz yet for young people aged between 11-18 years.

There are 50 questions to answer on subjects to suit everyone including sports, films, music and celebrities plus some logos to identify. Entrants who are library members stand to win an extra prize.

First prize is a £50 voucher to spend in the chain store of the winner's choice, second prize is a £30 voucher and third prize a £20 voucher. Five runners-up will each win a £10 voucher.

Entry forms are available from the Library or Honiton Community College school library from Monday 4 December. The closing date for entries is 6 January.

The second competition, which runs between the same dates, is for adults. Two lucky prize winners will receive a copy of Whitakers Almanack 2007, a third will win a £10 book token and there will be an extra prize of a £5 book token for one lucky person who is also a library member. This will be the first time Honiton Library has compiled a 'Dingbats' quiz, in which people will need to work out the well known phrase or saying.

Children aged under ten can also try their hand a Christmas colouring competition and could see their work in display in the Children's Library in January. There will be four mystery prizes for the winners and an extra prize of a £5 token for one lucky child who is also a library member. Children will also be able to collect entry forms from Honiton County Primary School Library as well as the town's Library.

The competitions are the brainchild of Honiton's award winning Community Librarian, Jenny Wood MBE. Jenny received her award in 2002 at Buckingham Palace in recognition of the outstanding service that she and her staff provide to the local community.

Honiton Library staff have also offered to send out entry forms for the teenager and children's competitions to other school libraries if they get in touch with them on 01404 42818.
