A NEW ADDITION to the Exeter Mobile Youth Unit looks set to get people up on their feet - as it comes with new dance mats.
The gazebo has been bought by Devon County Council's Youth Service for the Exeter street team's mobile unit, which is used by around 100 young people in the area, to provide much needed additional space for activities such as DJ workshops. The area will also provide a separate space for young women to talk privately about specific issues affecting them.
Two arcade dance mats, a projector and caravan battery have also been bought, so young people can use the dance mats on the streets.
The gazebo and mats will be presented to the Fountain Youth Centre on Tuesday, July 8, at 7pm, at a training evening for young people and youth workers on how to put up and take down the gazebo.
Devon County Council's Executive Member for Children and Young People's Services, Cllr John Smith, said: "We are pleased to be funding this additional facility for the Exeter Street Team, which will provide much-needed extra space for discussions and workshops to take place.
"The dance mats will also add a new feature to the service, and if last week's The Mix festival is anything to go by, will prove very popular with the young people using them."
County Councillor for the area, Philip Brock said: "I am naturally delighted that DCC are making further investments into our Youth Services. I have no doubt in believing the new dance mats will be well used and appreciated by those using this additional facility."
