Free tickets to ride on Princetown Fare Car

From Adrian Lane, Exeter 383262, April 02, 2007

FREE journeys are being offered on the Princetown Fare Car thanks to the Princetown Partners initiative.

A Fare Car will be in Princetown on Monday 16 April when free vouchers will be given out entitling people to one free trip, to be used by 31 May 2007.

The scheme is a shared public transport service run by private hire vehicles, operating at regular intervals in the evening after 6.30pm between Princetown and both Tavistock and Yelverton, and all day from 10am on Sundays.

The F16, funded by Devon County Council with support from the Princetown Partners, also offers a morning journey from Monday to Friday at 7.20am from Princetown, arriving in Yelverton by 7.40am to connect with buses to Plymouth and Plymouth College of Further Education, for those who work or study in the city. There is a return service from Yelverton at 6:05pm

Drop off points in Tavistock include Bedford Square, the Bus Station and the Hospital, and in Yelverton at the roundabout bus stop near the Co-op.

Councillor Margaret Rogers, Devon County Council's Executive Member for Environment, said: "The free vouchers paid for by the Princetown Partners are a good opportunity for people to try the fare car for themselves without any expense. For those living in rural areas it can be a great help in travelling to work, college or the shops, and this initiative should enable more people to see the benefits the fare car can provide."

Councillor Alan Hosking, Devon County Councillor for Yelverton Rural, said: "Transport in and out of Princetown is sometimes a problem and the Fare Car scheme has enabled people to travel more conveniently and easily. I hope this promotion will be widely supported."

Councillor Roy Connelly, Devon County Councillor for Tavistock, said: "The fare car has had a great impact in Princetown and extra journeys were successfully introduced last year. We're hoping we can encourage more people to make use of the scheme which is building on other good work by the County Council in the area."

The service is not only for Princetown residents, collecting them from their front door where possible, but also for those visiting Princetown. The fare is £1.50 per single journey.

To use the service contact Bernies Taxis on 01822 615777 at least four hours in advance, or the day before in the case of morning journeys.
