PEOPLE in Exmouth are being asked to help shape the future of the Strand.
A consultation event is being held at the Strand Gardens in Exmouth from 2pm to 7pm on Wednesday 25 June to give residents, traders and businesses the chance to have their say.
Devon County Council, East Devon District Council, Exmouth Town Council and the Town Management Partnership are seeking views on the area in order to put together proposals for its enhancement. Representatives from all of the authorities will be on hand to hear your opinions first hand.
Councillor Margaret Rogers, Devon County Council Executive Member for Environment, said: "The Strand is a key area in Exmouth and a lot more could be done to provide a vibrant area in the heart of the town that can be enjoyed by locals and visitors. This exhibition is a perfect opportunity for the community to say how they would like to see this area improved. Exmouth is part of the world renowned Jurassic Coast and it deserves a central area that reflects its importance."
Councillor Eileen Wragg, Devon County Councillor for Exmouth Littleham and Town and East Devon District Councillor for Exmouth Town Ward, said: "This is a great chance for the views of people of Exmouth to be heard and to influence directly the enhancement of this key part of our town. I hope that as many people as possible will come along and become actively involved in this important consultation."
Councillor Darryl Nicholas, East Devon District Council's Champion for Exmouth, said: "The three local councils are working together on ideas for improving The Strand and, with it, the atmosphere for residents and visitors within the wider town centre. Starting with a blank canvas, our aim is to create a world-quality space that will define Exmouth's importance as a community and a 21st Century resort on the Jurassic Coast, featuring the town's triple offerings of leisure, arts and environment. We want to work in partnership with the residents, traders and business-people of Exmouth to see what THEY want to see happening in The Strand."
Businesses and community groups are also being invited to discuss the future of the Strand.
Tony Collins, Exmouth Town Centre Manager, said: "The Strand area plays an important role in Exmouth's business success and this event will help to ensure that its future shape builds on this."
