Major improvements to Exeter Central Library during May

From Janet Kipling, Exeter 383654, April 16, 2007

Two sets of major improvements are scheduled for Exeter Central Library next month.

The Performing Arts Library will be closed from Tuesday 8 May to Sunday 20 May to allow for the installation of a new counter and some new shelving to improve accessibility for library users. In addition, there will some improvements to the lighting and flooring.

During the period of the Performing Arts closure, telephone and email enquiry services to the Performing Arts Library will not be affected. Performing Arts items for return can be taken to the Lending Library and a limited enquiry service for visitors will be maintained.

Exeter Central Library will be closed for essential work on Sunday 13 and Monday 14 May to allow new main doors to be fitted. The new doors will improve the safety and accessibility for people using wheelchairs or mobility scooters.

The telephone and email enquiry services will not be affected.

Executive Member for Culture, Councillor Sheila Hobden, said: "These alterations keep us up to speed with all the latest disability legislation, which will benefit a number of our users, and hopefully attract more people to discover the library."

Exeter Central Library staff apologise for the inconvenience these closures may cause, and hope library users will welcome the changes once they are in place.
