Exeter Community Centre considers its future

From Liz Waugh, Exeter 383578, January 23,2007

The results of the community consultation for Exeter Community Centre will be unveiled at a special Open Event this weekend.

St David's Residents and Businesses Association, working with Devon County Council, consulted with community groups and centre users in the Autumn about the future of the building.

The findings from the consultation event will be discussed, together with the proposed next steps in the process, including a detailed feasibility study on how the Centre could be developed in future.

Councillor Philip Brock said: The Centre was established in 1960 and has been serving the local community for many years. More recently though, it has not been used to its fullest capacity and is in need of extensive refurbishment, so the Council has had to look at a range of options, including the possibility of selling the building.

We want to encourage people to give us their thoughts about how best the Centre could continue to serve the community. The Open Event is the next stage in this study, and we are working with the St. David's Residents and Business Association and the existing tenants and users groups to explore every possibility."

Everyone is welcome to attend the open event which begins at 1pm on Saturday. Further information is available from:
