Estuary Partnership calls for help

From Adrian Lane, Exeter 383262, March 17, 2008

RELEASE ON BEHALF OF THE EXE ESTUARY MANAGEMENT PARTNERSHIP

THE Exe Estuary Management Partnership is asking for help from local clubs and organisations that are involved in recreational pursuits on or around the Exe Estuary.

The Partnership is working to create a new leaflet promoting the different recreational activities and events that can be enjoyed on the Exe. Local groups, who are involved in various pursuits, are being given the opportunity to present their ideas for the leaflet and and to be involved in its design.

A key theme of the leaflet will be to promote the sustainable enjoyment of the Estuary and to raise awareness of how recreation can work in harmony with the environment, such as disposing of waste and litter appropriately.

Councillor Margaret Rogers, Chairman of the Exe Estuary Management Partnership and Devon County Council Executive Member for Environment, said: "It is hoped that through the involvement of local clubs and organisations we can create a leaflet that reflects all of the interests around the Estuary and is also useful and informative. The aim the leaflet is to help local residents and visitors get more involved with the Estuary and promote the clubs and organisations offering recreational pursuits."

A representative from each club is invited to attend two meetings, the first will design the content and layout of the leaflet and the second will view a draft version of the leaflet and suggest improvements.

Jenny Lockett, Exe Estuary Officer, said: "It is essential for the concept of the leaflet that all activities are represented including sailing, bird watching, canoeing, rowing, diving, running, cycling, angling and many more. This is a great chance for all those involved with any form of recreational activity on or around the Exe Estuary to contact the Partnership and get involved."
