RESIDENTS in Crediton will be asked to "Do It For Devon" next week.
Devon County Council's new Climate Change Roadshow stops in the town's Market Square on Thursday 19 April as part of the Do It For Devon campaign aimed at reducing domestic carbon emissions. The roadshow is visiting dozens of communities, encouraging residents to make Devon "England's greenest county".
Expert staff will be on hand to offer help on the simple changes you can make through to renewable energy advice, to enable people to understand what causes climate change and how we can make a difference.
Devon County Council Leader Councillor Brian Greenslade, who launched the campaign, said: "People in Crediton who visit the roadshow will be able to see that they can play their part in tackling climate change. If each of us pledges to make a small change, it can have a much bigger impact in reducing our county's carbon levels."
Councillor Margaret Rogers, Devon County Council's Executive Member for Environment, said: "Anyone looking for advice on how they can save energy and reduce their carbon emissions around the home should visit the roadshow. There's plenty of advice on offer to show everyone how we can all work together to save our environment."
Visitors to the Climate Change Roadshow will be given help to access a wealth of information about climate change using the internet. The start-up costs were met by dedicated money made available by the Government for local authorities.
Anyone receiving benefits, such as pension credit, income support or disability living allowance, will be able to collect up to four free energy saving light bulbs. 5,000 low energy lightbulbs, donated by EDF as part of its energy efficiency programme, are being given away to offset the cost and carbon emissions of the campaign.
Councillor Nick Way, Devon County Councillor for Crediton Rural, said: "The roadshow is a good way for people in Crediton to see how they can do their bit to improve the environment. People can now take this opportunity to find out how they can reduce their own carbon footprint."
The roadshow will also promote the Renewable Energy 4 Devon prize draw, offering a number of energy saving devices. Everyone who enters will receive a free low energy light bulb.
A Householders Guide, offering practical hints and tips on how to save energy consumption and money, will be distributed across Devon in April and May.
