Bideford College anti-bullying campaign gets cash boost

From Pam Newby, Exeter 383654, November 21,2007

Bideford College's campaign to eradicate bullying has received a cash boost from Devon County Council.

The students who make up the college's anti-bullying team are to attend a Kidscape training event to enable them to engage in one-to-one discussions with their fellow students to tackle bullying issues.

Most of the cost of the training is being met with money from the County Council County Committee budget which enables Councillors to give one-off grants to local projects.

Bideford East County Cllr Hugo Barton has agreed to give £350 towards the project.

"Bullying can be a traumatic experience, not only for the person subjected to the bullying, but for the whole family, and the repercussions for children can be long term in respect of the impact on their education and social development," he said. "Schemes such as this are a valuable contribution to addressing the issue. I'm very happy to support this initiative, particularly as it emanates from young people."
