From Adrian Lane, Exeter 383262, March 30, 2007
NEW evening and Sunday bus services are to be introduced in Barnstaple.
The extra buses for Roundswell and Whiddon Valley on the 8E service will start from Sunday 8 April. They are being funded by the developer at Roundswell and are operated by Stagecoach Devon, under contract to Devon County Council.
Councillor Margaret Rogers, Devon County Council Executive Member for Environment, said: "The County Council is committed to improving access to public transport as we continue to strive to make Devon greener. These additional buses will allow residents in Barnstaple to make a difference to the environment and help reduce congestion in the town by leaving the car at home. It's a good way of avoiding the stress of sitting behind the wheel in queues of traffic."
Councillor Chris Haywood, Devon County Councillor for Barnstaple South, said: "I endorse the new arrangements which will benefit the community and I hope that people will show their support by using the new service."
Councillor Rodney Cann, Devon County Councillor for Fremington Rural, said: "It's a welcome increase in bus services in the area which is much needed in order to cut down on the volume of traffic."
Full details are included in the timetable leaflet, which is being distributed to homes in the area week starting from Monday 2 April. Further copies are available from the Bus Station. For details of all local bus service times contact Traveline on 0871 2002233.
