Training Programme

SAFEGUARDING LEVEL 4 - EMOTIONAL ABUSE AND NEGLECT

Trainer: Devon Local Safeguarding Children’s Board, and a Fostering Social Worker

Aims & Objectives: To explore the field of childhood emotional abuse and neglect. By the end of the course participants will be able to:

  • identify and assess the boundaries  of what constitutes emotional abuse, psychological abuse and neglect
  • identify the appropriate use of facts, feelings and opinions in presenting information and giving evidence in case of emotional abuse and neglect.
  • considered the links between emotional abuse and neglect with domestic abuse/children with faltering growth
  • identify attachment styles and behaviour of traits which can contribute towards a child  being emotionally  abused or neglected
  • considered  through messages from current research the personal, professional  and social context of practice in this field.
  • Consider alternative ways of communicating with families where emotional. harm and neglect has been a feature of family functioning.

Participants must have completed the Safeguarding Level 3 Course, formerly the Child Protection Foundation Course, prior to enrolling.

Dates: Various

Time: 3 day course, 9 a.m. – 4.30 p.m.

Venues: Various across the county.

Maximum number for this course:  there are 2 spaces available for foster carers on each course. This is a multi-agency training programme which provides a good opportunity for carers to train alongside teachers, health professionals and other social care staff. Carers will need to commit to both days if they wish to attend this course. If you're offered a place, it's essential that you attend.
