Training Programme

NARRATIVE THERAPY

Trainer:  Mark Hayward, Family Therapist

Mark Hayward is a local therapist working in the child and adolescent mental health service. He will share with carers his experience of using narrative therapy as a tool in direct work with children.

Aims and Objectives: By the end of the session participants will be able to:

  • Understand how stories shape lives, and how re-storying can re-shape lives.
  • Define structures to ask questions that can:
    • have children wanting to engage
    • separate the child from the problem
    • retrieve conversations from despair and recrimination
    • focus on children’s preferences for their own life
    • bring forward ideas for problem solving
  • Understand how cultural norms affect the lives of children and adults
