Training Programme

DEPRESSION AND ANXIETY IN CHILDREN AND YOUNG PEOPLE

Trainers:  CAMHS (Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services)

Aims & Objectives: This one day programme will provide participants with a better understanding of depression and anxiety in children and young people, and will:

  • Consider what we mean by anxiety and depression
  • Identify risk and protective factors relating to anxiety and depression
  • Explore definitions, diagnostic tools and their usefulness in working with children, young people and their families.
  • Give participants more confidence to work, within their own setting and collaboratively with other professionals, with children and young people with anxiety and depression.
  • Explore creative ways of working with children and young people who may be anxious or depressed.

As in Safeguarding Level 4, participants must have completed ‘Understanding the Mental Health & Emotional Needs of Children & Young People’ course before enrolling.

Maximum number for this course:  there are 2 spaces available for foster carers on each course. This is a multi-agency training programme which provides a good opportunity for carers to train alongside teachers, health professionals and other social care staff. Carers will need to commit to both days if they wish to attend this course. If you’re offered a place, it’s essential that you attend.
