The Family Care Worker Scheme specialises in helping young people with challenging behaviour to find a safe haven, a supportive family, and a place in society.
We’re looking for professionals with skills and training to both care for a young person, and play a key role in a multi-agency treatment plan. You’ll be a vital member of a dedicated team, doing challenging and immensely rewarding work.
But it’s a full-time commitment, so in return we pay what amounts to a professional salary. It’s now over £500 a week, to include the costs of caring for the young person. You’ll also get high-calibre training to build on your expertise – and the full back-up of a Support Worker.
This is a real opportunity to do something worthwhile, build a new career, and work from home. It could change your life - and a lot of others.
We provide care within a family for young people whose needs can’t be met by traditional fostering or residential care. We aim to stabilise their behavioural difficulties - and minimise any behaviour that might present serious risk. To do that we develop an individual multi-agency care and treatment plan, in which the Carer plays a key role.
The young people are between the ages of 8 and 15. They show complex behaviour that demands a specific care programme for their educational and psychological requirements. This programme has measurable aims and timetables, and includes details of their support package. We make every effort to match up carers and young people, and try to make sure that everyone’s needs are met.
Family Care Workers provide round-the-clock care – 7 days a week, 52 weeks a year. That means at least one carer needs to be at home full-time. This allows a relationship to develop that can support the young person, reduce the likelihood of more serious behavioural difficulties, and minimise the risk of the placement breaking down.
Because the primary Family Care Worker is full-time, we pay a weekly fee that includes the normal day-to-day expenses for the young person. The 2007/8 rate is £507.36 a week. Additional payments are made at Christmas and birthdays.
Family Care Workers each have a designated Support Worker, and can get up to nine hours of support a week. If you need help or advice at other times, your Support Worker and other members of the team are just at the other end of the phone.
Training is on-going, and we run a comprehensive programme of courses each year – from ‘Managing Children’s Behaviour Safely’ to ‘Solution-Focussed Brief Therapy’. This helps you develop your professional skills, and makes sure you’re familiar with all the support that’s available.
Ask about the Family Care Workers Scheme – and we’ll send you an Information Pack and an Application Form. Fill it in, and the Assessment Process starts.
If you’re successful it’ll lead to your first placement, and a whole new start – for you, and for a vulnerable young person.
